“The Godfather” is an intensely dramatic film both in plot and production…both are heavy, dark and ominous.

Here we see the main character, Michael Corleone, sitting motionlessly in a low value, heavy, weighty and dense atmosphere, while being highlighted by the high value chair and light source. This high contrast environment feels intense and threatening; we are not resting easy as we are aware of the drama as Michael evolves into the leader of a powerful mafia family.
